ABOUT
Sky Prairie Highlands was established in 2010 in Stockton, Cedar County, Missouri, on the family farm of Ladena Bough. Since Ladena's family came to Cedar County, Missouri, back in the late 1700's it seemed appropriate to continue with farming, like all of those in her past. We operate on 80 acres of ground originally owned by Carl Ray Bough, Ladena's paternal grandfather.
We raise our beef organically, never supplementing the grass feed with anything but non-GMO corn, natural minerals and salts. Our grass is fertilized organically, also, using turkey litter from organically raised turkeys. Due to the hardiness of Scottish Highland Cattle, we can boast about the fact that we have never had a vet on the property and have never had issues with raising Scottish Highlands.

As the owner/operator of Sky Prairie Highlands, Ladena is personally involved in all aspects of our operation. Scottish Highlands caught her attention many years ago, and the purchase of the first fold was a dream come true. While her family has been in the cattle business her entire life, she much preferred the heartier Scottish Highland breed as opposed to the Angus and Charolais cattle raised by other members of the family.
Bill Dickey
Vice-President
Bill is also a lifetime resident of Missouri, with most of his family having come from the Liberal, Missouri, area. Bill's family is also known for raising pulling horses for competition. Bill handles most of the day-to-day operations for the cattle and the pasture areas.
Friends and Family
We are blessed with five (5) children between us, and find all of them willing to help when the situation arises. In addition, we work with some of the Amish in the area that also raise Scottish Highland cattle. Their continued assistance in maintaining our pastures, fencing and hands-on assistance with the cattle themselves is an invaluable asset to Ladena and Bill.
Without them all, life would be difficult, but their assistance means the world to Ladena and Bill in all aspects!
